Tulimpsest
Built from many layers of collage papers in a wide variety of colours, the surface is then cut and peeled back in tulip shapes to reveal those layers below the surface. The top layer is painted to reflect the tulip fields of Holland, which I always feel is my second home. I used to love flying in and out of Schiphol Airport in the spring.
The title is a play on words Tulip and Palimpsest which means ‘something reused or altered but still bearing visible traces of its earlier form’.
